چکیده

This paper presents a brief synopsis of the historical development of hybrid sampling designs that combine traditional probability based sampling techniques with non-probability based quota designs to create model-aided sampling (MAS) designs. The MAS approach is illustrated for an application to a national business establishment survey called the Occupational Information Network (O*NET) Data Collection Program. Through simulation, we provide evidence that the estimates for this survey were not substantively biased by the MAS approach while data collection costs were substantially reduced. For reference in this paper, a model-based sample design uses a model to create quotas in various categories thought to be related to the study variables of interest and then uses a non-random sampling mechanism to obtain the requisite number of respondents in each quota cell. Inference is based solely on the model. By contrast, a model-aided sample design (1) starts with a probability based sample of units combined with quotas to ensure minimum and maximum respondent sample sizes. A combination of the probability based design and the model are used for inference.

The splitting design that leads to simple random sampling

Implementing unequal probability sampling, without replacement, is very complex and several methods have been suggested for its performance, including : Midseno design and systematic design. One of the methods that have been introduced by Devil and Tille (1998) is the splitting design that leads to simple random sampling .in this paper by completely explaining the design, with an example, we ha...

نمونه‌گیری پاسخگو محور در مقایسه با سایر روش‌های نمونه‌گیری از جوامع پنهان

Sampling hidden populations is challenging due to the lack of convenience statistical frames. Since most populations exposed to special diseases are hidden and hard to reach, sampling methods that produce representative and efficient samples from the populations have become a study subject for researches all over the world. Because of the unknown probability of selecting samples in conventional...

A Bayesian Method for Causal Modeling and Discovery Under Selection

This paper describes a Bayesian method for learning causal networks using samples that were selected in a non-random manner from a population of interest. Examples of data obtained by non-random sampling include convenience samples and case-control data in which a fixed number of samples with and without some condition is collected; such data are not uncommon. The paper describes a method for c...

An experimental comparison of telephone and personal health interview surveys.

This report describes the results of an evaluation of random-digit-dialed sampling and telephone data collection procedures for the collection of health interview data from households. The study design included the following components: a comparison of data obtained by personal interview using area probability sampling with that obtained by telephone interview using random-digit-dialed sampling...

Auditing a collection of races simultaneously

A collection of races in a single election can be audited as a group by auditing a random sample of batches of ballots and combining observed discrepancies in the races represented in those batches in a particular way: the maximum across-race relative overstatement of pairwise margins (MARROP). A risk-limiting audit for the entire collection of races can be built on this ballot-based auditing u...
